West Virginia Football Recruiting Update: 9/19

With the 2018 season in full effect, many of you may have lost track on the recruiting front of things. So with that being said, here is your latest recruiting update on the Mountaineers.

Recent Commits

OL Parker Moorer 6’5″ 294 lbs Mallard Creek HS/Charlotte, NC

Moorer a former Maryland commit, committed to the Mountaineers two days following the game vs Tennessee. He was in attendance for  the Mountaineers win and it’s safe to say that the game helped seal deal in his recruitment. Moorer is a versatile offensive lineman that can play pretty much across the entire front. His body is already “college ready”, so don’t be surprised if he finds himself in the rotation in year two.

OL Brandon Yates 6’5″ 260 lbs Liberty HS/Henderson, NV

The latest commitment coming from way out west in offensive lineman Brandon Yates. Yates, formally of Delaware, committed to West Virginia last Wednesday. He is one of the under the radar players that has been quietly dominating the high school level and giving problems for opposing defensive lines. Once Yates gets on campus and adds some weight, he should also find his way in the rotation. Holgorsen may have found a hidden gem here.

**-WVU Made Top 5 list

News and Notes

ATH M.J. Devonshire has not released a “top list” of schools, but it is believed that West Virginia is the front runner and is just a matter of when he decides to make it official.

West Virginia has swung 0 for the 2019 class on quarterbacks thus far (0/6) as their top targets for the position have committed elsewhere. Sam Howell (Florida St.), Connor Bazelak (Missouri), Brian Maurer (Tennessee), Zach Calzada (Texas A&M), Garrett Schrader (Mississippi St.) and Jahquez Evans (USF) are all off the board.

With Will Grier off to the NFL next year, the Mountaineers will only have two scholarship quarterbacks on roster, Jack Allison and Trey Lowe III. This is a glaring need and with the top quarterbacks gone, look for West Virginia to once again dip into the transfer market or JUCO route to add a body to next years competition.

One to keep an eye on is East Mississippi C.C. quarterback and former Michigan State Spartan, Messiah deWeaver.
