The West Virginia Mountaineers (12-6) defeat the William & Mary Tribe (13-4) 12-2 to take the series 2-1. WVU used power and speed to produce their highest run total of the season.

Lead-off hitter Tyler Doanes started the game with a triple and Darius Hill brought him in for the games first run on a sacrifice fly to left field.

The Mountaineers used their speed in the second after Paul McIntosh reach first on an error and Brandon White got on base with a walk. Then after a sacrifice bunt TJ Lake to advance the runners, Tevin Tucker bunted down the third base line scoring McIntosh and White raced home from second to give WVU an early 3-0 lead in the second.

Kevin Brophy smacked his fourth homerun of the season in the fifth to push the lead to six.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, West Virginia starting pitcher Kade Strowd gave up a hit and a walk before Brandon Raquet cleared the bases with a triple to inch a little closer to the Mountaineers 6-2.

West Virginia put the game away in the eighth adding six more runs. Paul McIntosh ignited the inning with his fourth homerun on the season. Brandon White tripled to left-center scoring TJ Lake after he hit a double. Tevin Tucker doubled into centerfield bringing home White. Tyler Doanes hit his second double of the day to score white.

A couple walks from Tribe reliever Ned Ruffin walked two to load the bases and proceeded to balk and walk a run home.

Kade Strowd’s day was done after seven innings. He ended the day with eight strikeouts, only giving up three hits and two runs

Dillon Meadows took the hill in the eighth and shut the Tribe down with three consecutive outs including a strikeout.

Tristan Hudson started the ninth on the mound. He gave up a walk but finished the game with three strikeouts as the Mountaineers maintained the lopsided victory.

Coming into the weekend, William & Mary sat at number 35 in the RPI rankings and WVU was setting at 37th.

West Virginia will face Youngstown State inside Monongalia County Ballpark at 3:00 pm est.
