Manoah and Inman lift No. 23 Mountaineers past Jayhawks

West Virginia starting pitcher and Big 12 pitcher of the year candidate Alek Manoah pitched another complete game shutout Saturday afternoon. After blanking the No. 11 Texas Tech Red Raiders last week, Manoah shutdown the Kansas Jayhawks (19-17, 4-9) with 15 strikeouts and held then just three hits..

The Mountaineers offense struggled to get going early and failed on a few occasions to put a string of hits together to bring across any runners at the plate.

Manoah got in a jam after giving up a single and a double to start the ninth inning. However, like he does so often, Manoah bared down and kept runs off the board.

Marcus Inman lead the bottom of the inning with a blast over the centerfield wall for a walk-0ff solo homerun as the No. 23 West Virginia Mountaineers (23-13, 7-6) take game one of the doubleheader and the three-game series 1-0.
