In-State Product Receives WVU Offer

On Saturday evening, in-state defensive end/linebacker Tavis Lee (Martinsburg) took to Twitter to announce that he has received an offer from West Virginia.

The Mountaineers immediately gained an inside track to land Lee’s commitment and the 6-3, 225-pound athlete plans to reciprocate the interest by visiting Morgantown sometime in the near future. And although many thought an offer from West Virginia would lead to a quick commitment, Lee says he will wait until the end of the season to make a decision.

When it does come time to announce his decision, Lee tells us that distance and defensive scheme will come into play and he didn’t shy away from expressing his excitement about possibly playing in the Big XII.

“I think it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity and I will have to work my butt off to make it.”

Lee first jumped onto West Virginia’s radar this past summer after the Mountaineers’ coaching staff worked him out at linebacker and defensive line. And being a bit undersized to play on the line, Lee is most likely being recruited as a backer for the 3-3-5 defense.

Lee is chalk full of raw talent. He’s quick, strong and fast through the gaps. He has good vision and movement with his arms and technique. Wherever he decides to go, Lee will most likely be molded into a run-stopping linebacker.
