Professional football is back in the friendly city of Wheeling, West Virginia, courtesy of the West Virginia Roughriders.

As an added bonus, the Roughriders have some familiar faces.

West Virginia’s newest professional team has retained the services of WVU standouts Noel Devine, Jarrett Brown, Robert Sands, and Ellis Lankster. Each guy had a stint in the NFL, and while some lasted longer than others, they all bring high-level talent to the organization.

Former WVU receiver Conner Arlia and former defensive lineman Larry Ford are also on the roster.

On Saturday night, the Roughriders kicked off the Indoor season against the Pittsburgh Defenders, winning in convincing fashion, 95-18.

Brown accounted for a combined five touchdowns with 207 yards through the air, while Devine caught five of those passes for 51 yards and Arlia hauled in four receptions for 57 yards and two touchdowns. On the defensive side, Ford registered a sack that resulted in a safety and also forced a fumble in the end zone that was recovered for a touchdown.

After the game, Brown was enthusiastic about playing football inside the Mountain State again.

“I saw a lot of familiar faces from the community here,” Brown said. “This was a great turnout, and we thank them for coming out. We love the support.”

The Roughriders, which relocated from Richmond after the 2018 season, will be back in action on Sunday, April 15th at 7 p.m.
